STRATEGIC DELEGATION

So what is your job as a manger? Each day, you are responsible for the work of your organization, business unit or team and make sure that it gets accomplished. But you cannot do all the work yourself. Delegation is not just telling someone what to do or just assigning jobs. Delegation is about the transference of authority to another person in order to accomplish a task and act in your behalf. This process involves planning, communicating and monitoring to empower others to success in the tasks they are given. Each person to whom you delegate will have different methods and approaches to accomplishing the tasks, making each delegation process unique.

Strategic Managers delegate where myopic managers will “dump” work on their subordinates. “Dumping” or the mere loading a direct report with additional tasks can cause multiple problems for everyone. It causes resentment, frustration and low self-esteem. True delegation, however, builds confidence, and aids staff members in building the skills needed for career growth and development.

Strategic Managers give direct reports the rights and powers necessary to accomplish the tasks and the support to complete on time, within budget, and with excellent results.

The Strategic Delegation workshop will help you and your managers to:

  • Analyze tasks and determine the best ones to delegate to others.
  • Choose the correct person for the job.
  • Communicate the details of a task with clarity.
  • Transfer authority to complete a task.
  • Establish methods for reporting and tracking.
  • Evaluate performance based on established goals.
